The instantly popular “Island to Table” outdoor dining experience is returning to Patchogue for a third consecutive year this summer.
The 5-course foodie fundraiser features select top chefs challenged to prepare both an entree and a passed appetizer using local ingredients.
Each chef will be paired with a Long Island farmer to choose their ingredients.
The chefs have been chosen and will be announced soon.
Tickets are $150 each. Last year’s dinner was a sellout and raised over $10,000 for HomeGrown Change, a local sustainability and educational group that introduces young people to gardening.
“HomeGrown Change has spent a lot of time supporting local community gardens in Medford, Patchogue and Bellport,” said the group’s founder, Eva Rodriguez-Greguski. “This included hydroponic and seed-starting demonstrations, as well as replenishing community gardens with organically grown plants.”
Greater Long Island Media Group is the event’s chief sponsor.
This year’s dinner will be held Sunday, Aug. 26, at Michael E. Reilly Memorial Park (Fireman’s Park) near the Great South Bay in Patchogue. The cocktail hour starts at 5 p.m. The sit-down courses begin at 6 p.m.
“This is always a very special night that has become a celebration of food and renewal and togetherness,” said Michael White, Greater Long Island Media Group’s founder and publisher. “We’re proud to be a part of it. We’re especially excited to be dining by the water this year.”
“Looking ahead, we have a large project in development at the Patchogue Head Start that will likely be a little more expensive because it will be more permanent,” added Eva Rodriguez-Greguski. “Because the children already do a unit on butterflies, we are creating a butterfly garden where they can be released and where they can learn about the plants and foods they eat.”
