They were indeed freezing for a reason Saturday at Islip Town Beach, where dozens took to the icy bay of the Great South Bay in a snow storm.
It all made for a very polar-style plunge to benefit Gavin’s Got Heart, which provides financial and emotional support for families with children affected by congenital heart defects.
Over $10,000 was raised at this second annual charity plunge, which this year happened to take place with snow falling and temperatures in the low 20s.
“It felt all right at first, just hitting the surface,” said plunger Jake Morrissey, “then as I settled in, I was like, ‘I gotta get out of here!'”
