Twenty years ago, Eric Rifkin opened a barbecue restaurant in Patchogue at a time when the village was still years away from becoming the downtown destination it is today.
Now, after two decades of smoked meats, live music and countless community gatherings, Bobbique is celebrating a milestone few independent restaurants ever reach.
As part of its month-long 20th anniversary celebration, Bobbique will host a special anniversary jam on Sunday, June 14, beginning at 3 p.m.
The event will be hosted by Super Electric (the Bobbique house band), featuring Mike Santa, David Ferro and Matt Griffin, and is expected to bring together longtime customers, local musicians and members of the community who have helped shape the restaurant’s two-decade journey.
Super Electric have hosted every Wednesday night jam for the past 14 years.
Since opening in 2006, Bobbique has grown from a neighborhood barbecue joint into one of Patchogue’s most recognizable dining destinations, known as much for its live music and welcoming atmosphere as its ribs, brisket and house-made sauces. In a recent interview with Greater Long Island (full story below), Rifkin reflected on the restaurant’s longevity and the relationships built over the years, crediting loyal customers, dedicated employees and the surrounding community for helping Bobbique endure through changing times.
