This was Massapequa’s moment.
In front of an electric crowd at Hofstra University on Monday night, the Chiefs defeated Garden City, 21-14, snapping the Trojans’ nation-leading 68-game winning streak in a thriller that came down to the final two minutes.
It was the first time the two powerhouse programs had ever met on the football field — and the highly anticipated matchup delivered a finish few will soon forget.

Garden City tied the game at 14 with 5:47 remaining on Brayden Robertiello’s second 5-yard touchdown run of the night.
Then Massapequa’s defense came up with the play it needed.
With just over two minutes remaining, the Trojans appeared to be setting up a screen for halfback Anthony Asaro.
Senior captain Ryan Chabus said he knew it was coming.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound defensive lineman jumped in front of the pass, intercepted it and returned it 20 yards to the Garden City 18-yard line with 1:50 remaining.
“When I saw the ball in the air, I felt like it took forever to come down, like slow motion,” Chabus said with a smile. “I just high pointed it and that’s it.”
’Pequa had the ball again. Now it had to finish the job.
Facing third-and-21 from the Garden City 29, senior quarterback Luke Garguilo found Dylan Milio wide open streaking downfield.
Milio hauled in the pass and raced into the end zone, putting Massapequa back in front, 21-14.

“The play before I took a sack and I should have never let that happen,” Garguilo said. “I just wanted to get the ball to someone in space and let them do their thing. I saw how open Dylan was and just had to get it to him.”
Milio had a good feeling the play would work.
“We practice that play and I was getting wide open,” he said. “So we called that play. Same route. Catch the ball and score.”
That’s exactly what he did.
“It’s amazing to be the team that broke the streak,” Milio said.
For Chabus, watching the game-winning score come moments after his interception made the moment even sweeter.
“I think the touchdown was even bigger than my interception,” he said. “Greatest feeling in the world and we knew the game was over after that.”
The Massapequa sideline erupted.
And when the final seconds ticked away, Garden City’s historic streak was over.
Massapequa’s winning streak is now at 26 games, the longest active streak on Long Island.
