Robert Brozowski was already on probation for a New Jersey domestic violence felony when he knifed a man he had never met

A Yonkers man who stabbed a stranger in the neck at a Babylon home, then tried to outrun cops on the Southern State Parkway, was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years behind bars.

Robert Brozowski, 37, had pleaded guilty in September to first-degree assault, said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney, who noted the man’s seemingly random violence.

“The defendant’s wanton act of violence has now led to 18 years in prison as a direct consequence of his unprovoked, criminal actions,” Tierney said. “We hope this sentencing brings the victim a measure of closure as he continues to recover.”

Brozowski was visiting the victim’s roommate at the Babylon home late on Aug. 29, 2025, according to admissions he made in court during his plea. He was on probation at the time for a domestic violence felony conviction in New Jersey.

Tierney explained that Brozowski stabbed the 38-year-old victim in the neck with a knife while trying to start an unprovoked argument him.

The two men had never met before that night.

After Brozowski fled from the home in his red 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, a nearby patrol officer spotted Brozowski’s truck heading north on Deer Park Avenue and then onto the westbound Southern State Parkway. The officer pulled him over, but Brozowski took off moments later, heading west.

Eventually, he pulled over again and was arrested, authorities said. The knife was never recovered.

The victim meanwhile was rushed to an area hospital, where he underwent extensive emergency surgery to repair his trachea and esophagus. He has since been released and is still recovering, Tierney said.

Brozowski pleaded guilty Sept. 24 before state Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, who handed down the sentence Wednesday.

Brozowski’s rap sheet stretches back more than a decade, prosecutors said.

In New York, he was convicted of second-degree reckless endangerment in 2014; driving while ability impaired by alcohol in 2015; third-degree assault in 2017 and again in 2018; and second-degree criminal contempt in 2019.

In New Jersey, he was convicted of a petty disorderly persons offense in 2019 and of aggravated assault, strangulation and domestic violence in 2023.

He was also found guilty in 2013 while in the military of communicating a threat and two counts of assault, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
