Verde Kitchen & Cocktails, a popular Mexican-inspired restaurant in downtown Bay Shore, plans to reopen soon after an early-morning kitchen fire forced it to close the last two days.
The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, co-owner Anthony Tartaglia told Greater Long Island. No one was injured.
Tartaglia thanked the Bay Shore Fire Department for its quick response. He said the fire was contained and the restaurant lost one piece of kitchen equipment.
“We’re not 100% sure exactly how it started,” Tartaglia said. He said the griddle can stay hot long after it’s turned off and that leftover food or grease could have played a role.
Tartaglia said he expects full service to resume as early as Saturday. The restaurant typically opens at noon on Saturdays.
Verde has been a fixture on East Main Street since opening in October 2014. The restaurant is also working on a larger location at 55 W. Main St., with plans to open in 2026. The new space will feature a rooftop bar, mezcal bar and multiple catering rooms. Tap here to read more about Verde’s new location.
