Nearly 250 graduating seniors beat the rain Saturday and received their degrees during a festive — albeit muggy — commencement ceremony at Sayville High School.
“We have an unbreakable bond that unites all of our differences,” class valedictorian Sohum Sheth told a crowd that surpassed 1,200. “We are all Sayville High School’s Class of 2019.”
Earlier, class salutatorian Nicholas Cameron stressed “the importance of living a balanced life” and the “ability to adapt.”
The 10 a.m. ceremony featured a vocal selection, “Times Are Hard for Dreamers,” beautifully performed by graduating senior Gabriella Medeck.
The Class of 2019 was joined by Sayville alumni who dated back to the Class of 1938. Saturday’s graduates, dressed in purple and gold caps and gowns, received their diplomas from Sayville school board President John Verdone.
