Sayville SweetFrog will donate portion of sales to family of boy fighting bone cancer

|

SweetFrog in Sayville will donate a percentage of the frozen yogurt sales it makes on Wednesday, Aug. 7, to help offset the financial burden of a Sayville teen’s medical treatment for bone cancer.

From noon until 9:30 p.m., the premium frozen yogurt cafe at 5640 Sunrise Highway will host “Make it Matter for Matt” to help 16-year-old Matt Zender and his family. Matt was diagnosed in June with bone cancer in his lower right leg after an injury caused by a kick to his knee did not heal properly.

“The Zender family needs to focus on their son’s treatment without the added stress of medical bills,” said SweetFrog owner Candice Golio. “We are happy to help such a wonderful family. They are great parents, with great kids. It just feels right.”

SweetFrog will also raffle off five “free yogurt for a year” prizes, with all the proceeds of the raffle going toward the fundraising effort.

Matt Zender, an honors student and fencing team captain about to begin his junior year at Sayville High School, faces seven months of chemotherapy treatments.

Matt’s fencing coach established a GoFundMe page, “Make it Matter for Matt.”
