It’s a way to go restaurant hopping in Patchogue Village without stepping onto Main Street.
The third annual Taste of Patchogue is all set for Wednesday, May 25, at the New Village at Patchogue apartment complex.
Fifteen area restaurants will be setting up satellite shops that evening around the complex’s Village Green, where attendees can nosh on local foodstuffs and sip samples of Blue Point beer, all for $10.
Proceeds will go toward the Patchogue Neighbors Inn, which runs five local soup kitchens.
“The original idea came from the fact that we built this New Village on Main Street and we wanted it to be very much part of the community,” said Christopher Kelly, a marketing director Tritec Real Estate, which built the 291-unit complex. “We want our residents to feel connected to Patchogue, and we want Patchogue to feel connected to New Village.”
Rapheal Vineyards of Peconic will also be offering wine at Taste of Patchogue, though the wine will cost extra.
“We want to make sure everybody who lives here [in New Village] gets a full sampling of what Patchogue is all about,” Kelly said, though he stressed the event is open to everyone.
The first Taste of Patchogue at the Village Green coincided with New Village’s grand opening in 2014, said Kelley Coughlan, an associate developer at Tritec of East Setauket.
That initial event was more about introducing the complex to the larger community, as well as potential tenants.
Now, with the residential units nearly full, the focus has shifted entirely to celebrating Patchogue while raising money for a good cause: fighting hunger within our own neighborhoods, she said.
“It’s all about community and it’s a great, multi-generational family event — with lots of strollers,” Coughlan said.
Attendees will also get a sneak peak of the food at Arooga’s, a massive sports bar and restaurant that will be opening at the prime location of Main Street and North Ocean Avenue later this year.
Work on Arooga’s has already started, Kelly said, and it’s expected to wrap up this summer.

Taste of Patchogue runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or online, although online tickets are $11.54 with the fee.
