Breeze Airways offering flight to the Kentucky Derby from Islip’s MacArthur Airport

|

Long Island horse racing fans can now hop on a non-stop flight from Ronkonkoma and arrive at the home of the Kentucky Derby in just a couple of hours.

Breeze Airways — Long Island MacArthur Aiport’s newest airline — will offer one-time service to Louisville, Kentucky, from the Town of Islip airport, just in time for the 148th annual Kentucky Derby at Churchhill Downs.

The race is set for May 7. Passengers can board the flight at MacArthur on May 5 and return to Long Island on May 8.

“If you’re a fan of horseracing, what better way to experience the first leg of the Triple Crown than in person at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

The novel airline — launched in May by JetBlue founder David Neeleman — avoids the major hubs, and instead focuses on offering nonstop service between such secondary locations as Long Island and Providence, Rhode Island.

Breeze Airways started flying out of MacArthur Airport on Feb. 17, offering service to Norfolk, Viriginia, and Charleston, South Carolina, for as little as $39.

The Kentucky Derby is one of the most well-known horse races in the world and kicks off the horse racing’s Triple Crown.
