The Seaview and Ocean Bay Park terminal in Bay Shore has a new look.
Passengers heading to those two Fire Island towns can now depart out of a revamped western terminal at 104 Maple Ave.
Tim Mooney, owner of Fire Island Ferries, Inc., said the much-needed improvements began in January and included bulkheading work, new siding, removing the old overhead and putting down new decking.
“Right where all the people’s cars are, that was flooding on a regular basis,” Mooney said. “We raised all that, brought in a bunch of fill, and paved the whole thing back over.”
Mooney added those who journey to Seaview or Ocean Bay Park this summer will notice the new Bay Shore terminal features a larger, covered passenger waiting area with more seating.
This week, travelers sailed out of the new terminal for the first time and Mooney said many were pleased with the renovations.
“It’s really pretty nice and everybody loved it, they noticed it right away,” he said.
