Fire Island Pines — the summer tourist destination and safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community — stars in a new Hulu movie that premieres June 3.
Directed by Andrew Ahn and written by Joel Kim Booster, “Fire Island” tells the story of a group of best friends who take their annual week-long trip to the Fire Island Pines for a fun getaway where they can be themselves, make memories and attempt to find love.
However, when a sudden change of events risks their ultimate summer vacation, their chosen family bond is pushed to the limit.
The film stars Booster, Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, comedian Margaret Cho, as well as actor-comedian and Islip High School graduate, Matt Rogers.
According to reports, the LGBTQ+ romantic comedy is described as a “gay ‘Pride and Prejudice'” set on Fire Island.
The story explores such themes as classism as the friends try to fit in with the Fire Island elite, racism, and queer Asian friendships.
The movie features plenty of typical Fire Island party scenes too.
