For those who have been waiting, it’s time to make a reservation at Luca, the newest restaurant spot in Stony Brook.
Luca is now serving upscale Italian fare in the old Pentimento’s space in the Stony Brook Village Center at 93 Main Street, brought to you by Old Fields owner David Tunney.
When it was announced, Tunney promised that Luca would be a different experience from his previous restaurants.
He has delivered on that promise.
The interior is an eloquent palette of white, brass and beige. Elegant crisp lines are offset by free form bursts of the chandeliers and the white-stained, hand hewn pine columns separating the brass-trimmed marble bar from the dining area.
There is seating for 80 inside and an additional 25 to 30 on the patio outside, trimmed by the flames of iron black tiki torches.
Everything on the menu is made in-house, according to staff, and it is all either locally sourced or from a regional supplier.
The vegetables are from a market in Brookhaven. The oysters are from Center Moriches. The coffee is from a vendor in Shirley.
Luca officially opened on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Tunney said that there will not be a grand opening, per se.
“We are opening Tuesday forever,” he said.
Luca is only serving dinner for now, open 5-9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 5-10 p.m. on Friday, 4-10 p.m. on Saturday, and 4-9 p.m. on Sunday. They plan to serve lunch beginning this fall from Wednesday to Sunday.
