Some people dream of doing play-by-play for a Major League Baseball game.
For Greenlawn’s Johnny Gadamowitz, that dream came true when he was just 12 years old.
Now he’s on the road to making it happen again. In the spring of 2013, the then-12-year old Gadamowitz called plays alongside Mets broadcasters Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling as the SNY “Kidcaster” contest winner. Johnny won the gig with an essay on what he enjoyed most about watching the Mets.
“I see all the cameras, producers, and that’s when it started to hit me,” Johnny told GLI. “I remember thinking this is a really big deal.”
Johnny said it was being with his grandfather, John Klein of Bellmore, a Mets fan ever since the Dodgers left Brooklyn.
“My grandpa is probably the biggest Mets fan in the world.” Johnny told Newsday at the time.
Fast forward a decade and, Johnny, recently graduated from Syracuse University, has landed a job doing play-by-play for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets High-A affiliate. “To have it be the team that’s right in my old backyard, and the Mets no less, I couldn’t ask for a better start to my career.”
