Breeze Airways and Islip officials announced Tuesday that the airline will add new non-stop service to Vero Beach from Long Island MacArthur Airport — just in time for the winter holidays.
Breeze will fly the route with the Airbus 220, which offers Breeze’s self-styled “Nice,” “Nicer,” and “Nicest” tiered seating.
Beginning Dec. 21, the airline will fly twice a week to Vero Beach, a haven for golf, water sports and fishing. Breeze officials said one-way fares will be as low as $69 and that flights will continue through April. Whether service is extended beyond that will depend on how popular the flights become, said Jim Smith, co-founder and vice president for corporate real estate – airport development.
“It’s clear how fond of visiting Florida that Long Islanders are, all year round. Especially in the winter,” Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said during a press conference at the airport in Islip. “Vero is an incredible destination, and in proximity are so many more areas that are popular with Long Islanders.”
Vero Beach becomes Breeze’s seventh destination out of Long Island. It already provides non-stop flight service to Charleston, South Carolina; Norfolk, Viriginia; Pittsburgh, Richmond, Virginia; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; and Portland, Maine.
Travelers can now fly non-stop out of MacArthur Airport to 14 destinations on three different carriers.
