Then the two-year wait is over for Islip locals, who have been eagerly anticipating the opening of Bar Clementine in the former Treme jazz venue on Main Street.
Bar Clementine is a concept from the ownership team behind The LakeHouse in Bay Shore, which includes Matthew Connors and his wife Eileen Connors, along with Jason Gut.
The trio is eyeing a mid- to late-January opening at 553 Main St.
“It’s going to be very elegant and very pretty,” Eileen Connors told Greater Long Island.
Similar to its namesake fruit, Connors said the 40-seat cocktail bar will be small but packed with big flavor, in more ways than one. The visual centerpiece upon entry will be a long, beautiful bar. Patrons can expect New American bites on the menu, and to indulge in elevated cocktails, including the signature Clementine cocktail.
Connors said Bar Clementine will be different than its big sister, the critically acclaimed LakeHouse on the Great South Bay. It’ll be cozier, but still elegant and welcoming, she said.
“We’re excited about it,” said Connors, also noting the concept has been a longtime dream for her business partner Gut. “It’s taken almost two years to get done and we’re looking forward to having another intimate space.”
The Connors, who live in Bay Shore, moved from Brooklyn in 2006 to open the The LakeHouse, with Eileen Connors running the front of the house and Matthew in the kitchen. Matthew had made a name for himself in Manhattan, where he last ran the popular farm-to-table restaurant Veritas in the Flatiron District. The LakeHouse is now perennially ranked as among the best restaurants on Long Island.
