Drivers jammed up in Oakdale merge traffic on Sunrise Highway can now take a break — and maybe kill some time — over a Whopper Jr. with cheese.
And maybe some onion rings.
A Burger King just opened in the newly reopened Bolla Market that had previously gone up in flames in June 2022. It had sat vacant along the service road in Islip Terrace until the recent reopening of the market, which also includes a Mobil gas station.
The Burger King is accessible inside the Bolla, as well as via a drive-thru.
The strip of gas stations and convenience stores located before the westbound exits to the Southern and Heckscher state parkways — where traffic backs up twice daily on weekdays — hasn’t ever offered a fast food joint for motorists. Burger King is also a partner with Bolla Markets.
The opening comes a year after Burger King announced it would be shutting 400 U.S. locations by the end of 2023, which included the longtime Blue Point location that’s now slated to become a McDonald’s.
