Box Pickleball is like Topgolf for picklers; now open in Riverhead

|

Folks have been lining up to take a swing — and/or a swig — at the new Box Pickleball facility in Riverhead, which features nine lighted courts and a gleaming new restaurant.

The facility opened last month and is being billed as a sports and social hub that has welcomed some 600 people since opening its doors at 605 Old Country Road (Route 58), in the heart of the town’s commercial hub.

The ownership team also says Box Pickleball features nothing before seen on Long Island: the full-service restaurant and bar managed by Justin Tempelman, owner of JT’s Café in Blue Point, as well as a pro shop and changing rooms.

Think Topgolf but for pickleball enthusiasts. (Scroll down for more photos.)

If you go

Members and non-members alike can book courts for play. Members have access to exclusive discounts and priority bookings, while non-members can enjoy hourly court reservations starting at $40, and open play prices from $25 to $30.

Then there are the youth pickleball programs, leagues, tournaments, cornhole competitions, and charity events supporting local and national causes.

Ownership is also looking to offer glow-in-the-dark pickleball and indoor bocce.

Check the Box Pickleball website for hours, bookings and the live music schedule.

The bands perform on a 20-foot stage. Also, you can click here to inquire about private parties.
