Babylon Village throwing a party to celebrate 50 years of its beloved craft fair

Babylon Village is getting ready to celebrate a half-century of one of its favorite traditions.

On Friday, Aug. 22, the Babylon Beautification Society will host a community gathering at the Village Gazebo from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to mark the 50th Annual Fair — a milestone reached last September.

The evening will feature the unveiling of a permanent bronze plaque at the gazebo, honoring five decades of community spirit, creativity and volunteerism in Babylon.

“We wanted something lasting to mark this moment in our history,” said Mayor Mary Adams. “The 50th Fair was a historic moment for our village, and this plaque is a tribute to the countless residents and volunteers whose dedication has shaped Babylon into the vibrant community we cherish today.”

Frank Petruzzo, president of the Babylon Beautification Society, said the plaque is also a thank-you to everyone who has kept the fair thriving for half a century.

“The 50th Fair was more than a milestone — it was a reflection of all that makes the Village of Babylon special,” Petruzzo said. “This is our way of recognizing the many volunteers, artisans, local leaders, and residents who have helped make the fair a beloved tradition.”

Guests can enjoy free hot dogs, pretzels, and cookies before the Summer Concert Series kicks off at the gazebo at 8 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. The Babylon Beautification Society — founded in 1971 — is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to projects that help keep the village beautiful.
