The wait is over.
Blackfish Tavern officially opens its doors today, bringing a new dining spot to a familiar site on the North Shore — as the old broken down Elijah Churchill’s Public House has been completely rebuilt, and reimagined.
The tavern announced the long-anticipated debut on Facebook, calling it a “soft grand opening” and inviting neighbors to stop by for food, drinks and live music from local band MJ4.
There’s even a dog-friendly patio for guests looking to bring their pups along.
The announcement added that lunch service would kick off today as well, with doors opening at noon and dinner service running through 10 p.m.
The project has been in the works for years.
As first reported by Long Island Restaurants, owner Andrew Whitcomb purchased the former Elijah Churchill’s Public House spot at 1031 Fort Salonga Road in Fort Salonga specifically to bring his Black Fish concept to life.
Whitcomb, whose family once ran the Whitsons Culinary Group, an industrial dining services company, had described the concept as a place that would stand apart from traditional pubs and seafood spots.
He oversaw a major overhaul of the property, with a modern kitchen, expanded parking and spaces designed to highlight the waterfront setting, according to the January 2024 report.
The opening comes as Long Island diners continue to seek out experiences as much as meals.
Community buzz has been steady, with residents filling Facebook comment threads with excitement — and relief — that the long-promised tavern is finally here.
“Can’t wait for the opening,” wrote Shari Raffone.
