Mito in Babylon Village has closed, according to employees at two other Mito locations in Queens.
The Asian fusion restaurant’s closure marks a sudden end for the downtown eatery, which opened in late 2023 in the space that previously housed Monsoon: Steak & Sushi at 48 Deer Park Ave.
Mito counts five other restaurants, including locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Yonkers, and a second Long Island spot in the Smith Haven Mall. The Babylon Village location offered a range of Asian fusion dishes, from sushi and sashimi to hibachi.
When it opened, the restaurant drew attention for its modern design and wide-ranging menu. A video tour shared by Greater Long Island highlighted the sleek interior and open kitchen concept.
The restaurant less than a year ago had hosted a special ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating its arrival in Babylon.
Word about Mito’s closure had begun to spread on social media, with former customers noting the sign on the front window indicting its closure.
