Sayville’s Dark Horse Coffee & Kitchen opens Port Jefferson location

|

After months of planning, renovating and prepping, Dark Horse has officially opened its second Long Island location — this time in the heart of Port Jefferson Village.

Located at 156 W. Broadway, the new café is everything fans love about the original Sayville spot — only bigger.

Owner Andre du Chaussee told Greater Long Island over the summer that expanding wasn’t even on the radar. The team behind Dark Horse, which first opened at 4836 Sunrise Highway in Sayville, had been focused on perfecting that experience when a serendipitous encounter changed their plans.

But a longtime friend, who had just renovated a vacant deli space in Port Jeff, convinced du Chaussee and his partner, Tim O’Leary, to take a peek at Port Jeff.

“We weren’t looking for a space at all,” du Chaussee said. “Dark Horse in Sayville had only been open a year and a half.”

What they found was an opportunity too good to pass up — and a chance to bring on Terri Novak, a veteran chef and culinary director, to lead the new hospitality team.

Now open, the North Shore location offers nearly double the seating of its Sayville counterpart, including an outdoor patio for sunny brunches and coffee catchups. Inside, it’s a bright, inviting space where guests can sip a latte to go, linger with friends, or post up with a laptop in the cozy back lounge.

The menu mirrors what regulars already know and love, from avocado toasts and breakfast burritos to bowls, oats, smoothies, and the popular Port Jeff BEC.

The coffee lineup features drip, cold brew, espresso drinks, and rotating seasonal specialties.

And, du Chaussee says, it’s the same friendly, smiling service that made their Sayville shop such a hit.

“We couldn’t have done this without our amazing staff,” he said during the café’s soft opening. “They deserve all the credit.”

Dark Horse Port Jefferson is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
