Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace just couldn’t wait for the ribbon to be cut.
After clearing its final inspections Wednesday afternoon, the beloved Long Island grocer quietly opened the doors of its brand-new Bohemia location around 3 p.m., giving early shoppers an unexpected first look inside Sayville Plaza’s newest anchor.
By today, Thursday, word had already begun to spread. A steady stream of locals filtered in throughout the day, checking out the 40,000-square-foot space that fills the long-vacant former Babies “R” Us.
Many were surprised to find the store operating ahead of schedule, with departments humming and the shelves fully stocked ahead of Friday’s official celebration.
Greater Long Island stopped by for an early walkthrough with photographer Eric Micallef, who captured the first detailed look inside the market — from the sprawling prepared-foods counters and in-house bakery to the expanded produce section and aisles packed with Italian imports.
It’s the first time the public is seeing the space in full since renovations began.
Store leaders say Friday, Nov. 14, will still bring the full grand-opening fanfare, including that ribbon-cutting, a 900-pound fresh provolone cheese and custom-made-to-order cannolis for sampling,
