Toys ‘R’ Us sets grand opening date for flagship Long Island store

|

Toys “R” Us is officially coming back to Long Island.

The iconic toy brand will open its new flagship store at Tanger Outlets Deer Park on Saturday, Nov. 22 — marking the first stand-alone Toys “R” Us on Long Island since 2018.

The 7,000-square-foot shop, operated by Go! Retail Group, takes over the former Forever 21 space. The shelves will be packed with LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels, NERF, Paw Patrol and more, plus photo ops with Geoffrey the Giraffe.

A Toys “R” Us spokesperson said the new flagship is designed as an immersive, nostalgia-filled space where shoppers can explore top toy brands, meet Geoffrey, and rediscover the joy of play.

Until now, the closest full-scale Toys “R” Us store has been the flagship at American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, N.J., across the lot from MetLife Stadium.

Festivities begin Saturday at 9:45 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting and an appearance by Geoffrey®. The celebration runs all weekend and includes:

  • Geoffrey meet-and-greets
  • Face painting and balloon twisting
  • Swag bags for the first 50 guests (the first 25 receive full-size Snoozimals plush)
  • A brand-new arcade with claw machines and gashapon machines
  • Tomy Gacha machines — wildly popular in Japan — making their U.S. debut

The Deer Park location is part of the brand’s nationwide comeback, which includes eight new large-format stores following the relaunch under WHP Global.

“We’re thrilled to continue expanding through our partnership with Go! Retail Group,” Jamie Uitdenhowen, Toys “R” Us executive vice president at WHP Global, said in a statement. “This next phase of growth brings the magic of Toys ‘R’ Us to even more communities — just in time for the holidays.”

For a new generation of kids, the magic begins Nov. 22.
