The Hauppauge father critically injured in a Bohemia crash three weeks ago was taken off life support Tuesday, his family and friends confirmed.
Brian Yost, 41, had remained in a coma after suffering severe injuries when his car struck a tractor-trailer on Veterans Memorial Highway. His family made the decision to withdraw life-sustaining treatment after doctors determined his condition was not survivable.
In an act of generosity amid tragedy, Yost’s organs will be donated in hopes of saving the lives of others, according to loved ones.
“Brian was a great guy. The kind of friend that you could call in the middle of the night and know he’d pick up the phone and be on his way if you needed him,” said Yost’s close friend Anthony DiLuca. “He’d give you the shirt off his back He was a super hard worker and did everything he had to do to make sure his mother and son were taken care of.”
Community fundraising efforts, including an ongoing GoFundMe campaign, continue to support Yost’s family, including his disabled mother and his 18-year-old son, both of whom he supported.
