Carlos Corte allegedly led the girl out the back exit while her mother was inside

A Patchogue man faces kidnapping charges after allegedly luring a 4-year-old girl out the back exit of a Main Street laundromat Saturday with her mother inside, police said.

About 12:08 p.m., the girl’s mother reported her missing from Laundry Kingdom at 183 East Main St.

Police responded, reviewed surveillance footage and began canvassing the area. The mother found the girl herself — in the children’s play area of the Patchogue-Medford Library, about 500 feet away at 54-60 East Main St.

An officer then located 38-year-old Carlos Corte, arresting and charging him in the kidnapping of the child, police said.

Cops noted that Corte was unknown to the family. He is charged with second-degree kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police confirmed he will be held overnight at Suffolk Police’s Sixth Precinct and arraigned at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
