Greater Long Island got a sneak peek this week at Namu, a new Korean barbecue restaurant putting the finishing touches on a massive renovation at 388 Medford Ave. in Patchogue.
The restaurant is transforming the space most recently occupied by The Edge at Lulu’s with an eye toward breaking the location’s cycle of short-lived tenants.
The changes are dramatic. Out front, a meticulously landscaped area near the entrance features a rock waterfall. Inside, workers have installed gleaming new lighting and are building out a redesigned bar area as the restaurant targets an opening in the coming months.
The roughly 6,000-square-foot building just off Sunrise Highway has struggled to find a lasting tenant in recent years. It previously housed Canz Bar and Grill, Hurricane Grill & Wings, and several other short-lived concepts.
Decades back, the site was home to South Shore Steak Pub (later called South Shore Restaurant), a fine dining establishment that drew steady crowds for many years. Korean barbecue restaurants, where diners grill their own meat at table-side grills, have gained popularity across Long Island in recent years.
