Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen plans to build and open its next Long Island restaurant in Lake Ronkonkoma, according to site plans under review by the Brookhaven Town Board.
The fast food chain with the catchy, decades-old jingle “Love that chicken from Popeyes” already has 10 restaurants in Suffolk County. The proposed 3,000-square-foot eatery would fill a vacant parcel at 359 Portion Road.
Inside, there will be room for 36. A drive-through window will be located on the western side of the new take-out restaurant, which would be sandwiched between an IHOP and a storage facility. Across the street is a Taco Bell, and just up the road is Regal Cinemas.
The project will be discussed during Thursday’s Brookhaven Town Board meeting.
Popeyes is seeking a zoning classification change for the property, from Business 2 to Business 6, as well as a special permit for a major restaurant with an accessory drive-through.
Popeyes recently launched a new Golden BBQ Chicken Sandwich, featuring a new sweet and tangy Golden BBQ sauce lathered on buttermilk-battered chicken breast made with all white meat.
The fast food chain has locations in Patchogue, Shirley, Central Islip, Riverhead, Centereach, Deer Park, Bay Shore and Brentwood. Lindenhurst has two Popeyes locations.
