If pigs could fly, they wouldn’t need to be rescued from the streets of East Patchogue.
But that’s exactly what happened Thursday night on Taylor Avenue, after the authorities were alerted that a pig had escaped its Scherger Avenue home and was wondering alone and in the dark.
Lieutenant John Thompson, Sergeant Michael Allen and Ryan Thompson of the Suffolk County SPCA’s emergency animal response Team responded to the area within minutes.
They were then able to humanely capture the 125-pound pig and return it to its owners, officials said.
SPCA officers said the pig was friendly and posed no danger.
