Aldi and At Home stores moving into Sayville Plaza in Bohemia

|

You can definitely call it a comeback.

It’s quickly becoming a lot less empty at Sayville Plaza in Bohemia. An Aldi supermarket and the home decor store At Home will soon replace the tumbleweeds at the recovering shopping center, according to Breslin Realty Development Corp., the realty company for the Sunrise Highway property.

The two new tenants are part of a wave of good news for the plaza over the last year. This spring, it was announced that Floor & Decor, a hard surface flooring retailer, was moving into the giant empty space where Kmart had long been. Earlier, Jennifer Furniture opened in the spot left behind by Pier 1 Imports at the east end of the plaza.

At Home is slated to move into the 90,000-square-foot space that’s been vacant since Borders bookstore closed nearly a decade ago. Floor & Decor will be located next door to the west. And Aldi will drop anchor in a 22,000-square-foot space on the other side of the future Floor & Decor.

Kmart closed early in 2020, leaving behind a wasteland of sorts at Sayville Plaza. Kmart, Pier 1 Imports, Office Max, Borders, Sports Authority, Modell’s and Babies “R” Us all once thrived in the shopping center, before closing for good and leaving behind empty storefronts.

The sprawling plaza is now occupied by Bed, Bath & Beyond; Panera Bread; The Vitamin Shoppe; Old Navy; and GoHealth Urgent Care, among some other establishments.
