Baldwin shares Hamptons crash details in Instagram video, hit ‘big fat tree’

It was “the biggest garbage truck” the actor had ever seen.

The vehicle Alec Baldwin said cut him off and forced him to drive his wife Hilaria’s Range Rover off the road and into “a big fat tree” Monday during a nor’easter in East Hampton was the size of whale, he said Monday night.

The Emmy Award-winning actor posted a meandering two-minute Instagram message Monday night to reassure fans that he and his brother Stephen, a passenger in the car, were “fine.”

“I was in a car accident this morning. I’m fine,” Baldwin said, before launching into a lengthy thank-you to organizers of the Hamptons International Film Festival, which ran from Oct. 5 to Oct 13.

Crushed his wife’s car

Baldwin, 67, and his fellow actor brother Stephen were traveling along Montauk Highway when Baldwin’s luxury SUV veered off the road and into a tree. Photos at the scene published by the New York Post show a disheveled and annoyed-looking Alec Baldwin talking on a cell phone.

“Guy cut me off in a truck. Big garbage truck. I mean a garbage truck the size of a whale. I’ve never seen a garbage truck. … Anyway, I won’t go into the details now and bore you, but to avoid hitting him, I… I hit a tree,” he said in the Instagram video.

“I hit a big fat tree and crushed my car. My wife’s car,” he went on. “I feel bad about that, but it’s all fine and I’m fine and my brother’s fine and boppity bop.”

The actor also took time to thank first responders, singling out one of the officers of the East Hampton Police Department for his professionalism.

“Lovely guy… as nice as can be and as pleasant as could be about the whole thing,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin ended his message saying he would be traveling to Los Angeles to see his family, and adding a note about his wife: “I’m still so proud of my wife. Hilaria, I love you more than anything and I’m very proud of you.”
