Tuesday, July 10, will mark the season’s first of four Alive by the Bay street festivals in downtown Bay Shore.
Here are some things to know before you go:
• There will be four installments of Alive by the Bay running every other Tuesday starting July 10. The other festival dates are: July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21
• Each festival runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The streets will be closed starting at 5 p.m. The serving of alcohol in the outdoor corrals will be cut off at 8:45 p.m., though many of the bars and restaurants will be hosting live music and offering drink specials continuing through the night, such as “Alive After Dark” at T.J. Finley’s.
• Any alcoholic beverages purchased within a penned area must remain in the penned area. Anyone found outside a penned area with an alcoholic beverage will be subject to an open container ticket.
• Main Street will be closed to vehicles from Bay Shore Avenue/Shore Lane west to Ocean Avenue, though Maple Avenue will remain open for north-south travel to the Fire Island Ferries and waterfront restaurants. Crossing guards will be posted at the Maple Avenue and Main Street intersection for festival-goers to cross safely.
• The town’s parking meters are in effect during all Alive by the Bay festivals. The Town of Islip has released a FAQ guide to help navigate the metered parking. There’s also now a parking meter app you could use to feed the meters remotely.
• Alive by the Bay is modeled after Patchogue’s Alive After Five and is billed as a very family-friendly event. There will be vendors up and down Main Street and opportunities for kids to get involved in the arts courtesy of Pinot’s Palette at the bandshell, and other arts and crafts vendors. There will be bounce houses, face painting and ice cream trucks, all centered around the bandshell.
• The festival’s chief sponsor is Northwell Health’s Southside Hospital, and the chief beer sponsor is Constellation Brands, brewers of Corona, Modelo and Ballast Point, to name a few. Bay Shore’s four craft breweries, Great South Bay, The Brewers Collective, Destination Unknown and Fire Island Beer Co., will all be represented and offering beer from their own beer gardens.
• Just west of the bandshell will be the health and wellness section, with demonstrations and information from representatives from Drew Patrick Day Spa, The Float Place, Northwell Health and more.
• The festival is run by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bay Shore’s restaurant committee, which will also be announcing the winner of this year’s ’30 Days of Eating’ raffle contest July 10 at the festival. Tickets are still available at all the Bay Shore restaurants for $20 each, with one person winning a leather-bound book containing over $1,500 in gift cards from 30 different locations. The drawing taking place at 7 p.m. at the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts.
• There will be three stages for live music, one at Main Street and 3rd Avenue, another at 4th Avenue and a third stage outside the Boulton Center. See the band lineup below.
