Here are some dates to keep in mind as you plan for Summer of 2017: July 6, July 20, Aug. 3, and Aug 17
Those are Alive After Five days in Patchogue Village.
(There’s also an Aug. 24 rain date.)
The dates were approved by the Patchogue Village Board on Monday evening, with board members saying a clear plan must be in place to better handle traffic and parking on Alive After Five nights.
“Alive After Five has been a tremendous component to helping us be what we are today,” said Mayor Paul Pontieri. “But this board has to protect the residents as well. We need to sit and take a serious look at how we manage traffic control. It’s a struggle with balance.”
The immensely popular street festival, which is run by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, once again shattered attendance records this past summer.
“This is not a community festival anymore,” admitted David Kennedy, the chamber of commerce’s executive director. “It’s much more regional.”
Kennedy said he hopes to huddle with village leaders soon to develop a traffic plan.
This past July’s second installment of Alive After Five attracted an estimated 25,000 people to downtown Patchogue, surpassing a 2015 surprise turnout of 21,000 by nearly 20 percent.
