Babylon Village chamber raises nearly $8,000 for businesses, Good Sam workers

|

Fundraising efforts led by the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce have raised over $7,700, according to chamber leaders.

The fundraiser, which is still seeing some money trickle in, was designed to support both frontline healthcare workers and businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money has been used to buy food and gift cards from businesses for Good Samaritan Hospital workers.

Teachers Federal Credit Union pledged $5,000 to the cause, while a GoFundMe page promoted by greaterbabylon.com raised nearly $3,000.

Over the last few weeks, the donations were delivered to the West Islip hospital.

“As soon as quarantine began, our board knew that we had to create a way for the community to support healthcare and essential workers,” said Kelly Peckholdt, head of the chamber. “We also wanted to mobilize funds to support our businesses during this challenging time, so we were humbled to raise as much as we did.”

The fundraiser is still ongoing. To contribute click here.
