Babylon Village is ready for its yearly Dickens Winter Wonderland

|

Babylon Village is turning back the clock for its annual Dickens Winter Wonderland festival.

On Friday, Dec. 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., downtown Babylon will be transformed into something that looks like it’s out of the Dickensian era.

The sidewalks will be filled with popular holiday characters like Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future will be stopping in different shops and restaurants throughout the day.

“The Dickens Night is a great time for families to come back and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, especially if they didn’t make it to the village for the Night of Shopping,” said Kelly Peckholdt of the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce, which runs the event.

Santa Claus will be setting up outside of Fitness Incentive at 157 Deer Park Avenue, where he and Mrs. Claus will be taking photos with the kiddies in a heated tent.

Also in front of Fitness Incentive will be a gingerbread-house decoration contest, with prizes going to the top three creations.

According to the chamber, the competition calls for already-made gingerbread houses to be brought to the gym between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The awards will be announced at 6 p.m.

The day’s festivities will also include a scavenger hunt. Participating merchants will have a poster in their window.

“It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday season with classic Dickens characters visiting businesses in Babylon Village,” said Danielle Vergano, the chamber’s vice president of events.
