Maxwell’s, Islip
At Maxwell’s, the gas fireplace is ornate and you can feel the warmth at one of their communal tables or from one of the seats at the bar. The French Onion Soup is a top seller during the winter months and there is a long list of appetizers to share, but you may want to greedily and intelligently order the Loaded Tater Tots, Bavarian Pretzel Bites or Mini Reubens for yourself.
Of their comfort foods, the newest is the Texan Grilled Cheese that stacks beef brisket, mozzarella and sautéed onions between two thick slices of Texas toast. Weather permitting, you can also sit by Maxwell’s outdoor fire pit and order from the menu. A Warm Cinnamon Bun with Vanilla Ice Cream would pair nicely with a wool hat and scarf.
