Bay Shore chamber files lawsuit to upend the town’s meter program

|

The Greater Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce is officially taking a legal stand against the town’s parking meters mounted throughout the hamlet.

As reported last month, the chamber announced it would filing an Article 78 Proceeding against the Town of Islip to appeal the meter program.

And on Tuesday, according to the chamber’s attorney, Jason Fenley, that action was taken.

“We commenced a hybrid Article 78 Proceeding against the [Town of Islip] to declare the parking meter program in Bay Shore as operating outside the governing statutes,” Fenley told GreaterBayShore.

On Friday, the chamber will be seeking a temporary restraining order against the town.

“We are going to ask the court to shut down the program during the pendency of the action,” said Fenley.

The Town of Islip refused to comment on the pending litigation.
