Bayport-Blue Point H.S. earns prestigious National Blue Ribbon School designation

|

Each year the U.S. Department of Education designates some of the highest achieving schools through its selective National Blue Ribbon School award.

Out of the 342 institutions that were chosen nationwide in 2017, Bayport-Blue Point High School has earned its spot on the prestigious list.

“As Superintendent of Schools I couldn’t be prouder; this is an honor that should be celebrated by the entire school district,” said Bayport-Blue Point Superintendent Timothy Hearney, in a video release (watch above).

“Our district is one that is rooted in tradition and this latest award is a fitting symbol that our tradition is one that is based in excellence.”

According to the Department of Education, the awards are given to schools that display “overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.”

“Congratulations Bayport-Blue Point High School you should be proud!” said Bayport-Blue Point High School principal Gaurav Passi.

On Nov. 6 and Nov. 7, there will be an official award ceremony in Washington D.C. to honor the winners.

Long Island also saw Earl L. Vandermuelen High School (Port Jefferson), Herricks High School, Massapequa High School, and Garden City High School earn the top designation.
