You might not feel it on Montauk Highway, but there’s usually a breeze by the bay.
That’s where we found Chris Ellinghaus of Farmingville and his 9-year-old daughter, Taylor, on Monday, fishing for fluke off the pier at the end of South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue Village.
The wind there was steady and just strong enough to negate Monday’s stifling heat.
“Looks like you got a keeper,” Ellinghaus told Taylor after checking his phone to see what the latest state Department of Environmental Conservation rules are for keeping a blue crab. Answer: 4.5 inches.
It was also a busy morning at the village’s Pool & Beach Club nearby, just north of Lombardi’s by the Bay at Maiden Lane and South Ocean Avenue.
Adult residents could spend the day there for $5, or $10 for non-village residents. Children and seniors could take a dip in the pay or pool for $3 residents or $5 for non-residents.
It was 92 degrees in Patchogue Village as of 1:30 p.m. with an expected high of 93 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, which also warned of a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms later Monday afternoon and evening.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for more hot weather and a chance of T-storms, though it will be a bit cooler, with a high of 88 degrees.
Temperatures for the rest of the week will be in the low 80s and sunny.
