Patchogue-based photographer Benny Migliorino spent a large part of quarantine capturing the toll of COVID-19 on small businesses.
He did so through his Project Face Mask, a collection of portraits of local business owners and organization leaders taken on location during the pandemic.
“I really wanted to capture the emotion that we are all feeling right now as small business owners,” said Migliorino, owner of Benny Migs Photo. “I didn’t want these images to look perfect. I was going for a dark moody aesthetic.”
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce helped with coordinating the photoshoots.
Leading up to the launch of his project, Migliorino is teaming up with the Patchogue Arts Council for a pop-up event at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Long Island.
From Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, the showing will take place at 20 Terry Street Suite 116.
The book release will be on Friday, from 7-10 p.m. The book is a 10×8 with 81 images.
Beth Giacummo, executive director of the Arts Council, called the work “A timely expression and reflection of the most impactful shared experience of our time.”
The project will be available for purchase. A part of the proceeds will benefit the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce.
