A body was reportedly discovered in the wooded area behind the 7‑Eleven on Hospital Road, across the street from NYU Langone Hospital —Suffolk (formerly Brookhaven Hospital), on Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses pumping gas at the convenience store said they were told a body had been found behind the building, in a patch of woods. Suffolk County Police have not confirmed that version of events, but a 7-Eleven employee told Greater Long Island that a “dead person” was found in the woods behind the store.
In a brief statement to Greater Long Island, police said only that officers responded to an emergency call at the address at 3:20 p.m.
No further details were immediately available regarding the deceased, including identity or cause of death.
The store, which opened in May 2024, is located at the southwest corner of Hospital Road and the Sunrise Highway service road in the old Island Grill location. It’s only steps from the Heatherwood apartment complex, where in late March police arrested Antwane Lee, 31, of Bay Shore, and charged him with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Justin Evans, 22.
That incident occurred in the apartment complex parking lot, and Evans was later pronounced dead at the hospital across the street.
This is a developing story. Please check back with Greater Long Island for updates.
