Long Islanders love Vero Beach, and Breeze Airways has taken notice.
The airline has decided to double its MacArthur Airport nonstop service from two to four times a week to the Florida coastal beach town starting this October.
“Adding service four times weekly with affordable fares is a game changer for Long Island residents with family and vacation homes in Vero Beach, visitors to Long Island, and travelers looking for a fun and easy way to get to a gorgeous stretch of Florida with ‘Seriously Nice’ Breeze Airways service,” said the airport’s commissioner, Shelley LaRose-Arken.
This is currently the only direct flight to Vero Beach and greater Treasure Coast from the New York City area. Starting Oct. 2, Long Islanders will be able to catch flights from ISP to VRB on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Breeze began offering this service in December, using its Airbus 220, which features Breeze’s self-styled “Nice,” “Nicer,” and “Nicest” tiered seating.
Town of Islip officials applauded the expansion of this service at Breeze’s announcement on July 10 at the airport, located at 100 Arrival Ave. in Ronkonkoma.
“When Breeze Airways launched nonstop flights between Islip and Vero Beach in December of last year, it felt like a very special present for all of Long Island,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Now it feels like the holidays all over again…in July…with more service between ISP and Vero Beach coming in early October.”
Breeze, a three-year-old airline started by JetBlue founder David Neeleman, began offering service on Long Island in 2021. It currently offers flights from the Island to Charleston, Norfolk, Richmond, Vero Beach, Raleigh-Durham, Portland, Maine, Jacksonville, and New Orleans. The company will begin offering flights to Fort Myers from ISP starting also on Oct. 2.
