Burlington Stores heads to the shuttered Big Lots! in Bay Shore

|

A Burlington department store is being planned for the closed Big Lots location in Bay Shore, Greater Long Island has learned.

A representative for the New Jersey-based retailer has confirmed that the company is looking to open at 1851 Sunrise Highway this fall.

“We are thrilled to bring a new store to the Bay Shore community, offering residents our everyday low prices on a wide assortment of brand name merchandise for the entire family and home,” the Burlington rep said.

Big Lots closed its Bay Shore store, and all others — nearly 1,000 in total — earlier this year after going bankrupt.

At the time, Bruce Thorn, Big Lots’ president and CEO said that “in order to protect the value of the Big Lots estate, we have made the difficult decision to begin the GOB (going out business) process.”

Before Big Lots, the space in the Best Buy shopping center had been home to a Toys R Us.

Now it’s making way for Burlington Stores.

The rapidly expanding national off-price retailer also opened in Oceanside’s South Shore Plaza last year. And the company is continuing to expand its footprint on Long Island, with an Islandia location planned in a former Stop and Shop, which is also being divided to make space for a Tractor Supply Co.
