Catch is shucking local clams & oysters at Island to Table July 30

|

As if the passed hors devours and local craft liquor and sangria weren’t enough, Catch Oyster Bar will be at the Island to Table cocktail hour July 30 in Patchogue as well.

Catch owner Mike Avino will be heading down to Terry Street that Sunday for the outdoor dinner fundraiser, the second annual, with a bounty of shellfish.

He’ll be shucking fresh oysters and clams from Peconic Bay, Great South Bay and Long Island Sound.

“This is something I’ve done my entire life,” said Avino, whose dad and Catch co-owner, Jim, was a professional clammer before becoming a restaurateur over 30 years ago.

Also among the staff at Catch is Connor Burke, the president of Eastern Bays Oyster Co. Burke can be found shucking oysters at Catch Thursdays through Sundays.

“He farms them in the morning and then he’s here shucking the oysters for people that same day,” Avino said. “That’s the benefit of an Island-to-table scenario; these oysters aren’t flying across the country to get to you.”

“I love being a part of the community and everything about Long Island,” Avino added. “So to be able to showcase the foods that I grew up on, amazing shellfish that some people might not even know about, that’s a really cool thing for me.”

After the palettes are cleansed that Sunday, July 30, it’s off to the six-course meal under the big tent from Camelot Rentals on Terry Street.

Tickets are $150 apiece and can be purchased here:
