Charleys Cheesesteaks opens inside Yaphank’s Walmart Supercenter

|

You can now grab some Philly cheesesteaks after shopping at Long Island’s new Walmart Supercenter in Yaphank.

Charleys Cheesesteaks and Wings, a fast-food chain headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, opened inside the giant 197,000-square-foot store on Tuesday, a Charleys employee confirmed.

The Charleys, which has seating for nearly 20 patrons, is located near the eastern entrance of the Walmart. For those unfamiliar, the Walmart Supercenter opened nearly two years ago in the new Boulevard complex off of William Floyd Parkway.

In addition to cheesesteaks, the chain offers other steak-based, as well as chicken, sandwiches and wings.

The chain was founded by Korean-American Charley Shin in 1985 at The Ohio State University. In 1986, he opened a 450-square foot space near OSU’s campus. It blew up from there — there are now over 600 locations across the U.S. today.

Recently, Charleys began opening inside of Walmarts across the country, including replacing the McDonald’s location inside the Walmart in Centereach.

Shin, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, first learned of cheesesteaks when in college when he visited Philadelphia. “I thought it was a great, great sandwich… Being a young man I loved to eat,” he told Forbes in 2017.
