Community donates over $5K in memory of longtime Gino’s Pizza worker who died in a car accident

|

Gino’s Pizza of Babylon recently posted a GoFundMe page to raise money for one of its own.

Carlos Mora, a delivery driver with the restaurant, died on May 6 in a car accident while making a delivery in West Babylon. He was 49 years old.

The driver worked for Gino’s for more than a decade. “Anyone who has ordered Gino’s pizza in the last 12 years would have likely had an order delivered by Carlos,” the GoFundMe page reads.

“When we were all hunkered down during Superstorm Sandy, Carlos continued to deliver food to people’s homes, helping them feel a sense of normalcy,” it continues. “When we were all stuck inside for snow days, Carlos delivered a warm meal with a smile.” Mora continued to bring hot meals to Gino’s customers during the recent pandemic.

And now after his passing, the restaurant, located at 258 Deer Park Avenue in Babylon, wants to help take care of Mora’s family.

After just one day after being posted, the page surpassed its $5,000 goal, with money still being donated. The pizzeria matched every dollar up to the first $2,500 raised and will be gifted to his family to alleviate the financial burden they’re facing with his sudden passing.

“We are so grateful to have known Carlos, a man who brought so much joy to those he worked with, knew and happened to meet during his deliveries,” the GoFundMe says. “He will always be remembered for his infectious smile, uplifting personality and determination to make people in his community happy. He will truly be missed by us all.”

To donate, the GoFundMe page can be found here. “Carlos took care of us for more than a decade. It is time for us to take care of him.”
