Crack cocaine, neglected dogs found in squalid Brentwood home

|

A Brentwood woman was arrested on drug and animal cruelty charges this week after detective entering her home were overwhelmed by the stench of urine, feces, rotting garbage and swarms of dead flies, authorities said.

The rancid air stung the eyes of investigators and the putrid smell caused them to nearly vomit. Amongst the filth of 48-year-old Stacy Zimmer’s home were two neglected pit bulls, according to detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA.

What landed Zimmer in even deeper trouble, authorities said, was the crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia allegedly found in her home

“The animals found indoors were in filthy areas of garbage and feces,” Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross said. “Hundreds of dead flies, buckets or urine and garbage were found strewn about the interior of the residence.”

Zimmer is accused of failing to maintain a safe and clean living environment for her dogs. She was charged Wednesday with animal cruelty, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Zimmer was processed at the Suffolk County Police Third Precinct and released. She is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on March 7. The pit bulls will become available for adoption at the Islip Animal Shelter.

The woman’s home was deemed unfit for human occupancy and has been boarded up by authorities.

The operation was executed with assistance from Suffolk County Police’s Third Precinct Patrol; the BEAST Unit of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office; and the Town of Islip Fire Marshal’s Office, code enforcement and animal shelter.
