A Westbury man faces drunk driving and assault charges following an early-morning crash on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead early Sunday that a passenger seriously injured, state police said.

Deondre Clark, 35, was recklessly driving a 2025 Toyota Camry north near exit M5 when he rear-ended a 2015 Honda Pilot about 2:48 a.m., troopers said.

The impact caused a passenger to be ejected from the Honda Pilot. That passenger was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Three other occupants in the Honda — the driver and two passengers — were treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Clark at the scene, charging him with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, DWI and reckless driving, police said. Investigators noted that he was driving at an unsafe speed.

The crash remains under investigation by state police. Witnesses are urged by police to contact Troop L at 631.766.3300.
