Elderly dog missing for five days found alive and well in Blue Point

|

Alex, the elderly Blue Point beagle reported missing last week, was found today trapped in a house crawl space not far from his Arthur Avenue home.

Before his rescue, the beloved 14-year-old dog survived five days in sometimes frigid temperatures, as his owners and members of the community scrambled day and night to find him.

“HE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!” Alex’s owner Ali Gentile emphatically posted on Facebook tonight. “He was found trapped under a nearby house crawl space. Seems ok will be bringing to vet.”

Alex had been missing since slipping through the fence at his home last Wednesday. In the meantime, Blue Point was hit with six inches of snow and saw overnight temperatures dip into the teens.

Gentile posted flyers around town and notifications on social media. He also contacted a tracker on Friday, hoping all his efforts would lead to the safe return of his “very friendly” beagle.

More than 1,200 Facebook users shared his “Missing Dog” notification that was originally posted on Thursday. And community members helped search the neighborhood for Alex.

The announcement was also shared by animal rescue groups, such as Peace Love and Rescue New York, on Facebook.
