City fireman, former U.S. Marine and a devoted father.

Anthony Caliendo lived his life for the benefit of others, touching countless individuals with his kindness.

An FDNY firefighter for five years, Caliendo died at his home in Lindenhurst on Monday, April 15. A funeral Mass was held in his honor on Friday at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills.

The Mass followed visitation services hosted at Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the days following Caliendo’s death, donations began pouring into GoFundMe fundraiser for his girlfriend and their 1-year-old daughter. More than $65,000 has been raised from 520 donations as of Saturday, April 20.

“Anyone who’s ever met Anthony knows the positive energy he carried with him everywhere he went, as well as a heart as big as this world,” wrote John Moravek, who established the GoFundMe page for Moravek’s family. “Anthony would drop anything he had going on to help you if you asked. If you needed a shirt, Anthony would give you the one off his back, no questions asked. He was that kind of guy.

Caliendo joined the FDNY in 2019 and was assigned to Ladder 137 in Rockaway Park in Queens. Shortly later, he transferred to Ladder 158 in Springfield Gardens, also in Queens.

“We want to make sure his daughter and mother of his child are not only supported during this very difficult time, but indefinitely moving forward,” Moravek wrote. “All donations will go directly towards Eliana’s well being and future.”
